What Our Members Do
Patient Alliance for Patient Safety

To advance PFPSC’s mission and strategic goals, we lead, advocate, and contribute to increase awareness, knowledge and active participation in patient safety efforts.

Our current programs include:

  • HeART of HealthCARE virtual art gallery – recognizes the power of art in promoting safety, healing, and partnership.
  • Mutual Healing – enables sincere conversations in a safe environment between patients and their families and healthcare workers to support all in their healing after a harmful incident.
  • Public awareness campaigns including World Patient Safety Day, Canadian Patient Safety Week, and Antimicrobial Awareness – we offer unique perspectives and resources that complement those offered by others.

In addition, we build and strengthen alliances: the Patient Alliance for Patient Safety and the former National Patient Safety Consortium. We also contribute our experience and knowledge to care delivery organizations, professional and regulatory organizations, medical schools, governments and others. We dedicate hundreds of volunteer hours each year to building a safer healthcare system.

After almost two decades of work in patient safety where we partnered with many to shape policies, strategies, programs and resources currently in use, we know that lasting change can only happen if we are part of that change.

“We can forgive them that our daughter died, but we can’t forgive them for how they treated us after she died” said a PFPSC member which echoes what Sir Liam Donaldson, MD and WHO Envoy for Patient Safety said: “To err is human ….to cover up is unforgivable…to fail to learn is inexcusable.”

“In honor of those who have died, those left disabled, our loved ones today and the world’s children yet to be born, we will strive for excellence, so that all involved in healthcare are as safe as possible as soon as possible.”
