Maryanne D’Arpino, RN, BScN, MScN, CHE
Maryanne is a respected healthcare executive and nurse leader with over two decades of experience championing patient safety and quality across Canada’s healthcare system. Her career reflects deep commitment to improving care outcomes, fostering a culture of safety, and centering the voices of patients and families in care delivery.
As a long-standing patient advocate, Maryanne has had the privilege of working alongside Patients for Patient Safety Canada, through her tenure at the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) and Healthcare Excellence Canada (HEC). She has worked alongside patients, families and system leaders to advance safety initiatives, influence national policy, and promote meaningful engagement in care design and improvement. Her leadership has contributed to safer systems at the bedside, boardroom and beyond.
Through her career she has held various progressive executive roles in quality and safety, driving transformational change in both institutional and community settings. Her work is grounded in evidence-based practice, collaborative leadership, and a systems-thinking proactive approach to risk and performance management.
With experience spanning both provincial and national organizations, Maryanne has held leadership roles at Health Quality Ontario, Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, the Canadian Patient Safety Institute, Healthcare Excellence Canada and Spectrum Health Care. With a passion for co-designing healthcare improvement that includes meaningful partnerships with patients and caregivers, she has designed large scale national quality improvement initiatives and programs that have supported clinical evidence-based practices to improve safe care across healthcare sectors.
Maryanne is the Chief Nursing Executive and Vice President Quality and Professional Practice at Spectrum Health Care. She is responsible for setting the strategic vision for Nursing, Allied Health and Personal Support at Spectrum Health Care. Her role encompasses executive sponsorship of all clinical and quality programs, and she oversees the development of Spectrum’s education strategy and program development with the aim of supporting staff in delivering safe high-quality home care. Maryanne also leads Spectrum’s Quality and Performance Measurement strategy and outcomes.
With a unique blend of clinical, operational, strategic expertise, Maryanne brings a patient-first perspective to the Patients for Patient Safety Canada Board of Directors and as the Chair of the Governance Committee – ensuring that safety and quality remain core to every decision.
