Diane was first associated with Patients for Patient Safety Canada in 2010 through her work at the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) leading their research program and the development of the disclosure guidelines and other key resources. At the time, she was also working on her PhD thesis about the psychology of errors in healthcare. Upon graduation, she was hired by the Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR), eventually becoming Executive Director for the province of Alberta. She continued to work in collaboration with CPSI as a consultant, with the development of guidelines for peer-to-peer support to improve the emotional well-being of healthcare workers. She was also a consultant with Healthcare Excellence Canada and the Institute for Safe Medication Practice. Most recently, she has been working closely with members of PFPSC on the Mutual Healing Program (based on her research work – link here) which aims to bring together patients and healthcare workers to help them heal after medical harm. Diane also brings her medico-legal expertise from her earlier work experience at the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).

“In honor of those who have died, those left disabled, our loved ones today and the world’s children yet to be born, we will strive for excellence, so that all involved in healthcare are as safe as possible as soon as possible.”
